Gillian Holding's work explores the tension between presence and absence, stability and flux. Her paintings inhabit the threshold between figuration and abstraction, where the seen world dissolves into memory and perception.

Grounded in observation yet shaped by inner response, her paintings evolve through gestures of erasure and reform. Layers of paint are applied, disrupted, and re-formed, mirroring the shifting boundary between terrain and sensation.

Rather than depicting place or people, the artist reveals the act of encountering it, finding moments of uncertainty where space opens into reflection.
